MSU-GenSan President Receives Flu Vaccination, Urges University Community to Prioritize Health This Flu Season

On January 14, 2025, Mindanao State University – General Santos City President received his annual flu vaccination administered by Dr. Usmaima Usman-Naga, the university’s Medical Services Director. This symbolic yet practical gesture underscores the administration’s strong commitment to promoting health and wellness among the entire university community.

The vaccination was carried out at the University Health Services Office, with Medical Services staff on hand to demonstrate the university’s capacity and readiness to deliver accessible health interventions. The President expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Usman-Naga and her team for their tireless dedication to student and employee well-being, noting that the flu vaccine is an essential preventive measure, especially as the flu season intensifies.

In his message, the President strongly encouraged all students, faculty, staff, and university partners to get vaccinated against influenza. “I encourage everyone to get their flu shots,” he said. “Doing so not only protects your personal health but also demonstrates care for the well-being of others. In our close-knit academic community, these small acts of responsibility can make a significant difference.”

The university’s Medical Services Office has consistently promoted flu vaccination as part of its broader public health strategy. Influenza remains a common yet potentially serious illness that can disrupt learning and work, especially in densely populated academic settings. Vaccination reduces the risk of illness, lessens severity if infection occurs, and helps prevent outbreaks that can strain health services.

University officials highlighted that making vaccination accessible on campus aligns with MSU-GenSan’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. It also reflects the university’s mission to foster a safe, healthy, and supportive environment conducive to academic excellence and community development.

As flu season peaks, the Medical Services Office will continue offering vaccinations and health education activities to increase awareness about flu prevention and overall wellness. The university administration urges everyone to participate actively, protect themselves and others, and help keep the campus a safe place for learning and growth.
