MSU-Gensan strengthens innovation and enterprise with the launch of Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) Office

Mindanao State University – General Santos continues to drive forward its commitment to research and enterprise with the unveiling of its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) Office on February 25, 2025, at the Conference Hall.

Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, MDM, LLM, delivered the welcome remarks, underscoring the important role of the IPTBM Office in advancing research, innovation, and technology transfer. “This is a historic day for all of us, and we make it even more meaningful with the unveiling of the MSU-Gensan IPTBM Office. This institution carries great responsibilities and expected outputs in driving innovation, not only for the university but for the nation,” he stated.

The event featured a keynote speech by Director Noel Catibog, TTPD Division Head of DOST-PCAARRD, who highlighted the importance of technology-driven research and intellectual property protection in enhancing national development. “Innovation is the driving force of economic development. If we consider it as a fire that fuels progress, then IPTBM and the entire RACE program serve as the spark that ignites this transformation.”

A brief background of the project was also presented by Jeanette B. Madas, Project Co-Leader of RAISE 2, providing insights into the initiatives and objectives behind the IPTBM Office. “IPTBM is a specialized unit dedicated to intellectual property protection and technology transfer. If we generate technology, we must protect it before deciding on its commercialization, extension, or deployment.”

The unveiling ceremony was graced by guests and representatives from various public and private sectors and offices, including deans from different colleges, signifying the collective commitment to fostering a culture of research-driven innovation.
