MSU-Gensan commits to quality Agri education through PRC & PRB-ABE inspection and monitoring visit

As part of its commitment to deliver quality education in agriculture and engineering, Mindanao State University-General Santos City welcomed officials from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Professional Regulatory Board of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (PRB-ABE) for an inspection and monitoring visit of its Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program on May 19, 2025.

The event began with the formal introduction of key MSU-Gensan officials by Dr. Randy P. Asturias, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, who remarked: “This activity is not only part of our compliance—it’s an affirmation of our continuous pursuit of quality and relevance in our programs. We welcome this evaluation as an opportunity to further improve and better serve our stakeholders.”

This was followed by the introduction of the visiting PRC and PRB-ABE dignitaries.
In his welcome message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas proudly announced that the College of Agriculture is among the top-performing institutions in the country based on the most recent board examinations. MSU-Gensan was ranked alongside the University of the Philippines Los Baños—a testament to its growing stature in agricultural education. “This is a vital movement for the future of our agricultural program,” the Chancellor emphasized, highlighting the administration’s commitment to faculty development and laboratory enhancement as part of its academic roadmap.

Engr. Rener B. Tandugon, MSAE, Chairperson of the ABE Department, delivered the statement of purpose, while Engr. Ariodear C. Rico, Chair of PRB-ABE, and PRC Region XII representative Ms. Deanna Jezrah H. Jontillamo presented the evaluation report. Their assessment noted the university’s steady compliance and continuous progress in program development.

The inspection was conducted as part of PRC’s mandate under the Modernization Act of 2000, which requires regulatory boards to assess and monitor higher education institutions offering licensure programs. MSU-Gensan’s BSABE program had previously passed the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) inspection in September, and this follow-up visit aimed to monitor ongoing improvements and ensure sustained alignment with national standards.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Mishell D. Lawas, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of long-term engagement between the university and PRC: “This is not just about passing the board exam—it’s about ensuring that the profession is implemented meaningfully across all sectors,” she said, urging the academic community to align institutional strategies with the PRC’s vision and to integrate MSU-Gensan’s eight-point agenda for academic excellence.

The visit concluded on a high note, marked by optimism, collaboration, and a renewed commitment to strengthening agricultural education. The PRC lauded the strength of MSU-Gensan’s ABE faculty, the department’s clear succession planning, and the administration’s unified efforts to position the BSABE program as a national benchmark in the field.
