MSU-Gensan Celebrates United Nations Week 2024 with Focus on Peace, Unity, and Sustainable Development

Mindanao State University – General Santos City reinforced its vision of becoming the National Peace University by celebrating United Nations Week from October 23 to 30, 2024. The week-long event promoted campus-wide peace, unity, and sustainability. Spearheaded by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and student organizations such as the Parliament of Political Science Students (PPSS), History Student Society (HSS), Human Rights Society (HURISO), and the Supreme Student Council (SSC), the program focused on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the culminating program, Prof. Anderson Villa, Ph.D., OIC-Director of OIA, commended students from the Contemporary World course for their artistic contributions and advocacy videos. “Through art exhibits and promotional videos, you’ve shown that peace and sustainable development begin with the smallest acts and connections,” he shared, urging students to embody the values celebrated during UN Week.

The celebration was anchored on the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.” It featured friendly competitions among colleges. The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) topped the quiz showdown, with the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) taking second and third places.

For the Collegiate Exhibit Display, CBAA won first place with its demonstration of how the college aligns with peace and SDGs. The College of Education (COED) dominated events such as the cultural attire competition, promotional video, and “Parada ng Lahi,” showcasing student creativity and collaborative spirit.

Through United Nations Week 2024, MSU-Gensan highlighted its commitment to the UN’s goals and its mission of advancing peace, unity, and sustainable development both on campus and in the wider community.
